A woman who is visiting Australia was surprised to find something that many Aussies take for granted – and the fact that it didn’t cost a cent to use.
Juyeon, who is originally from Korea, is in Brisbane on a working holiday visa and was stunned to learn of the many differences between Australian barbecue culture and what she experienced back home.
For instance, she was surprised that Australians can buy high-quality meat at the supermarket for an affordable price compared to Korea.
However, the main difference was that Australians didn’t have to go home to do it; they could instead go to a local park.

She said she discovered the barbecues while on a walk and has used it a handful of times since.
Video footage showed her grilled a couple of steaks, sausages and some garlic in a tray on top of the barbecue.
“We do have some back in Korea, but it is usually not free and needs a reservation to use,” she told Yahoo Lifestyle.
She called the fact that the Australian ones were free “crazy” and that it was as simple as looking on Google Maps to find one.
Juyeon wasn’t wrong; many fellow Koreans shared her discovery with their friends to try.
She called it “crazy” as in Korea you had to book and pay for them, but all you had to do in Australia was head to your local supermarket and pick up what you wanted to cook.
Aussies stunned by barbecue hack
A lot of people were stunned that Juyeon cooked her barbecue on the tray, with some praising the hack and others offering alternative solutions.
“What a hack using that tray! No more PTFE liners, foils and p***. Never trust the cleanliness of the park grill. Raw dogging it is not worth it,” one said.
“Wait, grilling in the tray is genius,” a second said.
“Wait.. are you cooking in the tray,” one questioned.
“The tray is meant for cooked meat and oven cooking, not putting on top of the BBQ. If you are worried the BBQ is clean or dirty, just use vinegar or hot water to clean.”
“You can buy BBQ matts, it just goes on top,” a fourth person said.
People are valid to be concerned about the hygiene of the BBQ areas, particularly after a photo of one went viral on Reddit in 2023.
The barbecue was covered in blackened, burnt-on food, food scraps, discarded utensils and soft plastics.
“Seriously? Feel like I stumbled across a crime scene,” the stunned park-goer said of the scene at the Frew Park, Brisbane, barbecue area.
